Bigger SUVs Score Low In Rollover Ratings

Full-sized sport-utility vehicles built by Ford and General Motors garnered low marks in
the latest federal ratings on rollover risk, according to the government. The National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says Ford’s Expedition and Lincoln Navigator,
and the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukons received two-star ratings. The remaining vehicles,
including nine SUVs, got three-star ratings. They included the Chevrolet Suburban, Nissan
Pathfinde, and Honda Passport. One star is the lowest score and five stars is highest.
Rollovers have a higher fatality rate than other kinds of crashes, according to NHTSA.
Currently, over 200,000 rollovers occur in the United States annually, resulting in 10,000
deaths and 27,000 injuries, and more than 60 percent involve SUVs.
