Ameri-Camp SRX 340CK

When it comes to fifth-wheels, slideouts are often considered an economic indicator. In a
world where more is better, slideout rooms offer more living space for more comfort, so the
more slides, the better. Unfortunately, multiple-slide units usually cost more than their
slide-challenged counterparts. Ameri-Camp, however, understands that less can also be more.
That’s why its 35-foot, five-slide SRX 340CK fifth-wheel retails for less than $50,000.
And, at 10,200 pounds, it weighs less than most of its competition, allowing it to be towed
by most properly equipped 3/4-ton pickups. With an overall height of 12 feet, it can also
fit into most indoor storage facilities. “In the past, we’ve done mainly mid-line,
mid-profile units,” explains Walt Mason, Ameri-Camp’s director of sales and marketing.
“We’ve had so much success that our dealers began asking us for full-profile units.
Manufacturers often think they know what the public wants, but listening to your dealers
will ultimately make your product successful.” Clearly, Ameri-Camp could not offer a
five-slide trailer at this price point without some sacrifices but, according to Mason, the
340CK offers all of the equipment you would expect, without “gingerbread” like ceramic tile
and solid-surface countertops. What it has is a roomy floorplan with two opposing slides in
the 6-foot-tall bedroom, a roadside kitchen slide, a roadside living-area slide and a
curbside sofa/dinette slide. Standard features include Armstrong linoleum, oak cabinet
doors, a three-burner stove with an oven, a microwave, a double-door fridge, swivel chairs
and a sofa bed. However, most units are built with the LX package option in place (unless a
base model is specifically requested), which includes a soft-touch ceiling, an upgraded
pillow-top queen mattress, designer fabrics, MOR/ryde suspension and 16-inch aluminum
wheels. Comfort is controlled by a 15,000-BTU ducted air-conditioning system and a
40,000-BTU furnace with in-floor heating ducts. Structurally, the 340CK features Ameri-Cage
16-inch, on center, double-welded all-aluminum-frame construction including the slideouts;
E-Z Lube tandem axles; R7 fiberglass insulation; and fully enclosed, insulated and heated
holding tanks/termination valves. Other exterior details include an outside shower and a
patio awning. A variety of options are available, such as an electric fireplace, a
home-theater system, AC generator prep and power stabilizer jacks. The SRX 340CK is one of
four different models in the SRX product line; others include the 325SK3 (32 feet 6
inches), 341S3 (34 feet 11 inches) and the 350RL4 (35 feet 11 inches). “We believe there
are a lot of destination RVers who want a quality product, with lots of room, but without
paying $60,000, $70,000 or $80,000,” said Mason. “The SRX line fills that need.” Ameri-Camp
