The American Automobile Association (AAA) recently conducted a survey with Seventeen
magazine that found that 46 percent of teenage drivers text message
while they are driving. Additionally, 51 percent admit to talking on a
cell phone while at the wheel. The AAA says that driver distraction is a
factor in 25 percent to 50 percent of all crashes; 58 percent of the
teen respondents said they drive with friends in the car.
The AAA reports that motor vehicle crashes are the No. 1 killer of
teens, claiming more than 6,000 15- to 20-year-olds each year.
