2011 Land Rover LR4

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

In 2010, Land Rover’s mainstream model received an upgraded interior, a new engine and other improvements and was renamed LR4. Now for 2011 it has been further upgraded with Hill Start Assist, Gradient Acceleration Control and an improved Terrain Response system plus several new standard features and options.

The LR4 is available in five- and seven-passenger versions. The optional third-row seat is best suited for children, but the “pedestal” third row has an elevated roof for more headroom. The interior includes a leather-trimmed dash with rich wood trim, softer-touch materials, improved placement of controls. There’s now 375 horsepower from its 5.0-liter V-8 engine. A six-speed automatic transmission teams with four-wheel drive and plenty of power for trailering with a maximum tow rating of 7,716 pounds. Four-corner, independent, height-adjustable air suspension and Land Rover’s exclusive Terrain Response system help bring impressive off-road ability without sacrificing on-road handling.

While the LR4 starts just under $50,000, the list of standard features is long and includes rear parking distance control, dual-zone climate control and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while premium HSE LUX models get bi-xenon headlamps, power heated mirrors, a heated steering wheel, heated washer jets, a navigation system, front park-distance control and a powerful 550-watt premium surround sound. All models include Bluetooth and an LCD touchscreen is included to control audio and climate functions, as well as iPod connectivity.
