Volkswagen’s 2010 Touareg
five-passenger SUV comes in two trim levels and with two V-6 engine options – the
VR-6 gas and TDI diesel. The VR-6 FSI model has a 3.6-liter gas V-6 rated 280 hp
and 266 lb-ft of torque, while the V-6 TDI gets a 3.0-liter turbodiesel with 221 hp and a
stump-pulling 407 lb-ft of torque at 2,250 rpm. Every 2010 Volkswagen Touareg comes with a
6-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive and low range.

EPA fuel mileage estimates for the VR-6 are 14 mpg city/19 mpg highway and 16 mpg
combined. The TDI diesel is rated at 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined.
The VR-6 FSI model comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, auto headlamps
and wipers, power tailgate, sunroof, rear parking assist, tilt-and-telescoping steering
wheel, 12-way power driver and eight-way manual passenger heated front seats, dual-zone
climate control, Bluetooth and a 10-speaker CD stereo with satellite radio.
Luxury packages are available with 19-inch alloy rims, leather upholstery, 12-way power
passenger seat, special wood interior trim and heated steering wheel. Lux Limited packages
add 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome trim, special bumpers, side sills and upgraded interiors.
A “Technology” option offers bi-xenon headlamps, hard-drive-based GPS system, back-up
camera, iPod input, upgraded audio system and keyless entry/ignition. A “Premium
Technology” option goes beyond the Technology package, adding a killer Dynaudio sound
system. Other optional extras include a trailer hitch, rear-seat DVD entertainment system
and electronically adjustable air suspension. With proper equipment, the Touareg is rated
to tow 7,700 pounds. Prices start at $40,850.
