We’ve all been there. You climb behind the wheel of a vehicle, slide the key into the ignition and give it a turn—only to be met with the sounds of an engine strugglingto turn over. Whether due to age or cold temperatures, dead batteries happen. If you’re lucky, a helpful bystander will take pity on you and give you a jump. If not, you’ll end up scrolling through your phone, searching for that friend who owes you a favor. Or if you’re lucky, maybe you have a NOCO Boost lithium-powered jump starter.
Sage advice has always been to carry jumper cables, but now travelers can do better: Advances in electronics and lithium battery technology have led to the creation of portable jump starters. The Boost line from NOCO is the perfect example of what these devices bring to the table. Small enough to fit neatly in the palm of your hand, yet powerful enough to jump start the 12-volt batteries found in most cars, trucks, SUVs, and other vehicles, they’ve quickly become a must-have for modern drivers.

For RVers, the Boost X GBX155 is the model of choice. This unit cranks out 4,250 amps, which is enough juice to jumpstart a 10-liter gas engine or an eight-liter diesel. The process is simple: Turn the device on and let it power up for 60 seconds. Then turn it off again, attach the integrated jumper cables to the appropriate battery posts; finally, reactivate the GBX155 and turn the key to start the motor. Give it another 60-second cooldown, and the gadget will be ready to go again.
In addition to being a portable jump starter, the GBX155 comes with a built-in 500-lumen flashlight that comes in handy after dark. The device also has two standard USB ports for recharging phones and other small electronics, as well as a 60-watt bi-directional USB-C port that can power a laptop. That same port is used to recharge the unit itself, which can go from completely dead to restarting your car in as little as five minutes.
Both USB-C and 12V charging cables—along with a carrying case—are included in the box. MSRP: $370. Visit no.co for more information.
