If you’re in the market for a lightweight travel trailer that is heavy on features, the 2023 edition of the Taxa Mantis should be on your shortlist. Yesterday, Taxa Outdoors unveiled an updated version of its popular camper, revealing additional features and functionality while retaining the same footprint of the original model.

Taxa went back to the drawing board when creating the new Mantis 5.1, which has plenty of innovative features. For instance, the trailer has a removable restroom that can be set up inside the RV or out. The upgraded shower now accommodates occupants that are up to 6’6” in height and has a flexible hose that can stretch all the way to the door to clean muddy feet and gear before entering.

The 2023 Mantis also adds what Taxa calls a Flex Space in the front and rear of the vehicle. These areas are built to quickly and easily be reconfigured for use as needed. For example, the front section includes a dining area for up to four people but can quickly transform into a workspace complete with a desk that can be adjusted for use while sitting and standing. When not being used as a mobile office, that same desk can also extend the counterspace in the kitchen.

The Matnis’s onboard storage also gets a nautically-inspired upgrade this year. The trailer now comes with an integrated “milk crate” drawer system for securely holding gear and supplies. The kitchen has a backsplash storage area, and a modular ottoman can be used to store items, including the included portable toilet. Taxa has even increased the RV’s capacity for hauling e-bikes and motorcycles.

Other nice features include a batwing awning system, room to sleep 4+ adults, and a pop-up roof that increases ventilation. The optional “Adventure Bundle” adds a Dometic CFX3 45 fridge, a Front Runner Wolf Pack and Fire Pit kit, and 200-watt flexible solar panels. All of this fits in a trailer that is just 19 feet long and has a dry weight of 2,972 pounds.

Taxa is taking reservations for the Mantis 5.1 now, with production expected to ramp up soon. For more information, visit the company’s website, where you’ll find a complete rundown of the trailer’s specs, features, and options.
