If you think all fifth-wheelers are big, ponderous trailers that require a massive truck to tow, think again. The Keystone Cougar Sport is a versatile, well-appointed option for those who own a half-ton pick-up but don’t want to sacrifice on comforts and amenities. Best of all, it offers a lot of value, delivering a fantastic camping experience at an approachable price.
Available in two distinct floor plans, the Cougar Sport sleeps five to ten adults depending on the configuration. The smaller 2100RK model stretches 25’ 11” in length and tips the scales at 6,720 pounds. Meanwhile, the larger 2700BH is 31’ 10” long and has a dry weight of 7390 pounds. Both trailers come with a 54-gallon fresh water tank and 60- and 30-gallon gray and black water tanks, respectively.
Multiple slide-outs create additional space at the campsite, while electric stabilizing jacks keep the RV safe and level. Large pass-through storage areas hold all your necessary gear and luggage, keeping it safe and secure when rolling down the road. An electric awning deploys at the push of a button, and the trailer can connect to 50-amp power where available.
Inside, RVers will find a spacious kitchen with wood cabinets, a tiled backsplash, and pressed-surface countertops. Appliances include a three-burner induction stove, 17” Furrion oven, a microwave, and a residential refrigerator. A stainless steel sink with a high-rise faucet makes clean-up easy, while the nearby four-person dinette is a comfortable and fun place to gather at mealtime.
The outstanding features continue in the bathroom, where you’ll discover a vanity with an oversized medicine cabinet, a sink, and wooden cupboards and drawers. A large shower connects directly to a tankless water heater, while a ceiling-mounted skylight lets in plenty of natural light. A porcelain toilet, a built-in towel holder, and a seamless pressed countertop round out the features of this surprisingly spacious wet bath.
The primary bedroom has a queen-size bed, built-in nightstands, storage cabinets, a closet, and even a shoe cubby. The room is wired for mounting a TV and has a second roof-mounted AC unit for added comfort. Reading lamps, windows with privacy shades, AC power outlets, and USB ports are easily accessible throughout.
Other features of note include a Hyperdeck RV floor that is lighter, stronger, and more damage-resistant than wood laminated options. The Cougar Sport also comes with color-coded 12-volt wiring and a tow package designed to make pulling the trailer as easy and safe as possible. The trailer’s Climate Guard package even makes it an excellent option for four-season camping, with temperature ratings ranging from 0ºF to 110ºF. Solar panels are an optional add-on.
While this list of specs and features is impressive, nothing compares to seeing the Cougar Sport in person. This is an impressively designed and built fifth-wheel trailer with high-quality components and materials throughout. Watching the video above provides a good sense of what it is like inside one of these RVs, which are comfortable, beautiful, and a whole lot of fun.
