Xplorer Xcursion 26′

XPLORER MOTOR HOME DIVISION PRIDES ITSELF in producing niche-market motorhomes, and the company’s new Xcursion 26-foot Class C, built on the Ford Super Duty F-450 cab/chassis, is the latest in that vein – aimed at the seasoned motorhome buyer who wants a full-size motorhome with four-wheel drive, diesel power and a slideout. Diesel power is available in other Class C units, but four-wheel drive usually is not, and Xplorer has designed the new Xcursion to handle all the abuse backcountry roads can dish out. The motorhome also is available with a V-10 gas engine and two-wheel drive if desired. The Xcursion’s body is built on aluminum floor joists and a 1/2-inch-thick plywood floor with aluminum on the underside. The walls are made of tubular and angle aluminum and are molded into the one-piece gelcoated fiberglass body. The cabover section is made of two-piece fiberglass, reinforced with an aluminum deck. Because some of the Xcursion’s buyers will undoubtedly use the motorhome during wintertime, the walls and ceiling use R-18-rated urethane-foam insulation. A 25,000-BTU furnace and a 13,500-BTU ducted air-conditioning system control interior temperature. The Xcursion is produced in two basic floorplans with a variety of available options. The coach pictured here features a living-room slideout, which houses a 74-inch sofa bed. The four-person curbside dinette converts into a double bed, and there’s a queen-size bed over the cab. An overhead entertainment center up front is available with or without a slide-out twin-bed “drawer” that tucks under the entertainment system. Xplorer offers three interior décor choices – blue, sage green and brown – matched with standard white laminated cabinets or optional oak cabinets. The kitchen features a microwave/convection oven, a three-burner stove, an 8-cubic-foot three-way refrigerator and a pull-out pantry. Out back, there’s a rear-corner bath with a separate shower. Power for dry camping comes from a standard 4-kW gas AC generator for V-10 applications, while diesel-equipped Xcursions have either a standard 3.6-kW LP-gas-powered AC generator or an optional 3.5-kW diesel counterpart. The Xplorer holds 36 gallons each of fuel and fresh water, 19.5 gallons each of gray and black water (in heated holding tanks), 16.5 gallons of LP-gas and 6 gallons of hot water. Xcursions are built one at a time, per the customer’s order, and retail for $101,000, a price that varies depending on the level of optional equipment.
