The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, have more to offer visitors than just the Mall of America or a sporting event at the Metrodome. Hospitable entertainments include art exhibits, stage shows, museums and horse racing, among many others.
Stroll through the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden to see more than 40 works on permanent display, along with the temporary installations. It is the largest urban sculpture garden in the country. The park is open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily with free admission.
Join in the Mississippi River Challenge July 30-31, presented by Friends of the Mississippi River. This two-day paddling event aims to promote a cleaner, healthier river in the Twin Cities metro area by having participants canoe or kayak downstream as part of a fundraiser. People of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate. During your 22-mile paddle trip, you’ll travel through three locks, learn about the history and ecology of the great Mississippi River, and have a chance to connect with other river enthusiasts. If you’re pressed for time, a one-day registration option is available for Saturday only.
Stop by the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul to check out the King Tut exhibit that runs through September. The museum’s Big Back Yard outdoor hands-on exhibits, mini-golf course and prairie maze teach visitors about natural landscapes and conservation efforts.
Take in dinner and a stage show at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. See a Broadway-style show or laugh at the antics of Stevie Ray’s Comedy Cabaret. This fast-paced, clean improv show is similar to the TV show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” and performs every Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Grill menu and cocktails are available throughout the evening. All seats are $25 but group prices are available for 15 people or more.
Experience the thrill of live horse racing at Canterbury Park Racetrack in Shakopee. General admission for live racing is $5 and kids 17 and under are free. A variety of dining options cater to almost any culinary taste, from corn dogs and sandwiches to dinner salads and chicken scallopini. The park also hosts a poker room and table games.
