Q. My question is about trailer covers. We live in an area that can get a fair amount of snow, and the weather can get very windy at times. I’ve heard that some or all covers can wear on the rubber roofs, causing the owner even more problems. Is there any truth to this?

A. Covers designed for RV use have padding on the back or underside, C.H., as they’re specifically made for being in contact with an RV’s walls, roof and so on. A cover of that type, as long as it’s secured in place according to the manufacturer’s directions, will be less harmful to your RV than it would be to leave it uncovered. Damage can occur when a person uses a cheap plastic tarp, for example, as a cover. Those tarps have a fairly rough surface texture that can damage an adjacent surface due to flapping or rubbing in the wind. Stick with common sense and a commercial product, and you should be fine.
