Of all the changes Tiffin Motorhomes (tiffinmotorhomes.com) has in store
for the 2006 season — ranging from radio upgrades and additional
interior color schemes to a significant front-to-rear facelift of its
Allegro — the biggest news coming out of Red Bay, Alabama, is the
coachmaker’s introduction of a front-engine diesel model.
Included within Tiffin’s popular Allegro Bay line — previously
only available as a gas-fueled coach — the new model is based upon the
front-engine diesel chassis recently unveiled by Freightliner Custom
Chassis Corporation. Available in gross vehicle weight ratings (gvwrs)
of 22,000 to 26,000 pounds, the new chassis features a 300-hp, 5.9L
Cummins ISB engine, Allison transmission, lowered engine position and
55-degree front wheel cut.
The new diesel-powered Tiffin will be available in three
floorplans, ranging from 34 to 38 feet. “We are confident that as our
customers become interested in moving from our high-end gas models into
diesel, they will find this Allegro Bay very attractive,” said General
Manager Tim Tiffin.
Pricing of the new diesel is expected to be “slightly above”
that of the gas version of the Allegro Bay, which starts at $116,522.
