After a long, grueling day researching all the cool things to see and do along The Scenic Route (I know, tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it), my family and I want nothing more than a quiet place to just kick back and relax. And, over the past nine months we’ve been on the road, we’ve more often than not found what we’re looking for underneath the bright yellow sign with the red-and-black teepee logo that marks a Kampgrounds of America location.
With more than 475 campgrounds nationwide, we’ve found there’s generally a KOA located near whichever of the National Scenic Byways program’s 150 federally designated scenic byways we happen to be writing about. Besides the long pull-through spaces we prefer for our 37-foot-long Kodiak 300BHSL trailer, every KOA location we’ve visited on our year-long expedition has been clean, well-maintained and staffed with the friendliest of people. Not to mention all the welcome amenities, from swimming pools to well-stocked stores to family movie nights.
