There’s something about a well-designed bus conversion that captures the imagination, and I couldn’t take my eyes off Teschner’s $1.5 million “White Star.”
Climbing up into the coach, I was entranced by the coordinated design elements and attention to detail. Here was a high-end motorhome that whispered elegance. No frilly excess, nothing out of place, yet everything you could desire in your dream RV was within reach.
Starting with a Prevost XLII 40-foot bus shell (and that alone will set you back nearly $400,000), Teschner Coach, converter of luxury motor coaches, works with each individual client to build their dream motorhome. Equipped with state-of-the-art vehicle technology, as well as high-end quality interiors designed and professionally handcrafted in Germany, it was easy to see the quality of this one-off production. The high-quality fit and finish in the coach reset my standards with regard to both quality and aesthetic appeal within this class. I’m ashamed to say that I started looking for flaws in the luxurious interior. But it was a waste of time, much to my chagrin, because even the grain on the solid cherry cabinetry matched.
I opened a cabinet to see how deep this attention to quality reached only to find the interior finished to the same high standard as the exterior. As an amateur woodworker for longer than I care to admit, I was very impressed.
Glancing aft past the curbside galley, this particular coachcsporting the “Regensburg” floorplan — featured a novel wood plank, granite mosaic tile and recessed LED lighting strips on the floor that accented the flowing lines of the cherry cabinets. Even the high-gloss granite countertops went one step further with integrated LED strips in the edges. As my host explained how the natural stone surfaces were cut using state-of-the-art computer-controlled CNC water-jet cutting and stoneworking equipment, I was impressed by the way the design elements carried a nautical feel from the driver’s compartment to the rear master bedroom.
Additional touches of luxurious comfort include all leather upholstery, hot-water underfloor heating and a 26.2-cubic-foot side-by-side refrigerator that includes a door-mounted 15-inch LCD TV. The Teschner White Star also offered three other TVs, including a
32-inch unit mounted in the outside entertainment center.
One of the traditional trademarks of high-end coaches built on a Prevost chassis is the highly polished exterior surface metals — those that aren’t covered by layers of custom paint. But this coach also features stainless-steel water and holding tanks — 158 gallons of
freshwater and 79 gallons each for the gray- and black-water tanks.
Working my way back to the sleeping quarters I couldn’t help but notice that the interior walls of the main wardrobe were finished to the same high quality as the rest of the coach — and if the granite shower wasn’t enough to let you know you are in a luxury coach, the
wardrobe doors pneumatically close with the touch of a button. Ah, to be comfortably wealthy.
