Tennessee Tornado Destroys KOA Park

A Tennessee KOA is cleaning up after a tornado tore through the park just weeks before opening for the season.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, The storm leveled the empty campground just two weeks before it was to open for the season.

KOA Tellico Plains owner William Stokely said that thankfully, nobody was hurt.

“I think God was looking out for some people,” he said.

The park, however, was heavily damaged.

More than a dozen structures on the 30-acre site, including 10 cabins, two lodges and the main office building, were caught directly in the tornado’s path after it swept through downtown Tellico Plains and crossed the Tellico River.

The National Weather Service said the tornado that hit Tellico Plains in Monroe County has been rated an EF-2 with maximum winds at 130 mph. The path width was 400 yards with a length was 14.6 miles. No serious injuries were reported.
