Sunline Fifth-Wheels

Veteran RV manufacturer Sunline Coach Company has reintroduced fifth-wheel floorplans into its extensive lineup of conventional towables. With its new product line, the 39-year-old company hopes to capture a share of the already hot fifth-wheel market with fresh contemporary interiors, sturdy construction and attractive profiles.

For 2004, Sunline fifth-wheels will be offered in seven floorplans, ranging from 29 to 37 feet in length, with manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) from $43,000 to $51,000. Depending on the model, up to three slideouts are also available.

Construction on the company’s upscale line starts with a welded-steel framework. As an additional benefit, forward bedrooms have 6-foot-height clearances. All models come with seamless EPDM rubber roofs, gelcoat fiberglass exterior walls, molded front and rear-end caps, double insulation in the roof and the floors, tinted safety-glass windows, heated holding tanks and an enclosed underbelly.

Four décor collections include Fern Blue, Nutmeg Floral, Meadow Rose and Forest Green. Cabinets in the Sunline fivers are screwed together rather than stapled; they are handcrafted of real wood-core stock that’s designed to resist warping and expansion and are “particle-board free.” Cabinet modules are also screwed into walls, ceilings and floors for extra strength, and are adorned with cathedral-oak raised-panel doors on most models. Countertops and nightstands are stylishly edged in oak, with Formica or WilsonArt brand laminate surfaces.

Some of the notable trailer features include plush, mildew-resistant carpeting with 5.5-pound density backing; fabric headliners; double-door refrigerators; china toilets; gas/electric DSI water heaters; and 35,000-BTU furnaces. Additionally featured are full fiberglass showers with integrated seats, slideout pantries, Flexsteel furniture, ducted roof air, patio awnings and a four-speaker stereo with a CD player. Popular options include hardwood floors, ultraleather furniture upholstery, a sealed-burner stove with electronic ignition and a deep oven, slideout awnings, aluminum wheels and MaxxAir roof vents.

Tank capacities include 60 gallons of fresh water, a 70-gallon gray-water reservoir and a 30-gallon black-water tank.

Sunline fifth-wheels have ample forward pass-through exterior cargoholds, plus plenty of interior closets and cabinets. With unloaded vehicle weights (uvw) ranging from 9,150 to 11,410 pounds, users can load roughly 2,850 to 3,090 pounds (depending on model) before exceeding their respective gross vehicle weight ratings (gvwr). The trailers have gvwr from 12,000 to 14,500 pounds, which should render them towable by many of today’s appropriately equipped heavy-duty pickups. Sunline fifth-wheels carry the company’s three-year warranty on structural features and a two-year warranty on components.
