Suncruiser 38T

What do you do when you’ve added as many slideouts as possible to a single vehicle, yet you
want to try something new that allows more design flexibility for your company’s products?
From what we’ve seen in recent years, fewer big slideouts instead of more small ones are
among the motorhome industry’s latest answers to floorplan innovation. Combine this trend
with the new higher-rated gasoline-powered motorhome chassis models, and you have some very
interesting new vehicles coming down the pike. The Suncruiser 38T is built on the Workhorse
W24 chassis with a 24,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr), a feature that allows
even more design diversity. Despite our test coach’s size, it still boasted a 1,304-pound
cargo-carrying capacity (ccc). Of course, a chassis with an enviable gvwr and a coach with
all the latest innovations create a combination that doesn’t translate into entry-level.
This Itasca almost sets a new benchmark for gas-powered coaches — it’s pushing real close
to the $200,000 mark, as tested — but in this case it’s noteworthy, and won’t be the last
that we see. From the broadside, it’s just another modern Class A with very nice optional
full-body paint, but up front, the ’06 Suncruiser nose features angular, contemporary
styling that catches eyes. Two extra-large slideouts adorn the 38T coach, with the
streetside unit flush forward against the driver’s seat and the curbside slider flush
against the back wall. The slideouts overlap in the center — and that’s where some of the
floorplan originality kicks in. Some new floorplans come and go, while others flop
miserably, but the Suncruiser 38T will probably take its place among the more popular
options available. Good driving, fun living, quality construction … you can’t ask for
