DYNAMAX CORPORATION has introduced new widebody models to its lineup of Class C motorhomes. At 7 feet 6 inches in width, the new Starflyte 21- and 24-foot motorhomes are 6 inches wider than standard Starflyte units. Changes in the coach include new front and rear caps, upgraded interior trim and materials, a larger and flatter shower pan, larger holding tanks and improved interior ergonomics. According to Dewayne Creighton, Dynamax president, the company’s Starflyte series is aimed at vacationers, weekenders, tailgaters and older folks who want to downsize from large coaches, but still want the freedom to travel in a fully equipped motorhome. Referring to the sleek design, Creighton noted, “Just because it’s a Class C, no one said it has to be ugly!” The aerodynamically designed motorhomes are based on Chevrolet’s 3500-series cutaway Class C chassis with a 139-inch wheelbase and equipped with Chevy’s new 340-hp, 8.1-liter V-8, which is the most powerful gasoline engine available in today’s motorhomes. The Duramax 6.6-liter turbocharged V-8 diesel is offered as an option, and both engines are backed by a four-speed automatic transmission.
The walls and roof are radiused, and the sides are tapered back from the cab. The cab roof has been cut away, so occupants can walk erectly to the driver and co-pilot seats. The body and roof are gelcoated fiberglass skin over the aluminum-tube structure and polystyrene insulation, and the floor is steel-framed. The 21-foot Starflyte (pictured) is 21 feet 6 inches in length. External height with an optional roof air conditioner is 10 feet, and interior height is 6 feet 3 inches. Capacities include 33 gallons of fuel, 40 pounds of propane, 20 gallons of fresh water, 27 gallons of gray water, 27 gallons of black water and a 6-gallon water heater. The coach is prewired for an optional 2.8-kW generator, a television and a Fan-Tastic fan. Three floorplans are offered for this 21-foot size, with the main sleeping facility provided by the streetside sofa bed in the model shown. There is no sleeping area over the cab; that area is used to house solid-oak cabinetry for the optional television and VCR. There is a shower/toilet combination in the rear, as well as an outside shower. The exterior graphics are all automotive paint covered with clearcoat. The Starflyte
low-profile Class C motorhome initially was a Coachmen Industries product; the line was
