Staff Pick: Omnia Stove Top Oven

There’s nothing like homemade biscuits to add a little warmth to a meal. The only problem is that not all RVs have ovens. The portable Omnia Stove Top Oven has made that issue a thing of the past.

Three pieces of the Omnia oven with a red lid and silver base and centerImported from Sweden, the Omnia is a three-part circular “recreational oven” designed to evenly spread the heat around food as it cooks, just like a conventional oven. I baked with the Omnia on a gas burner, though it is designed to also work on electric stovetops, grills and even kerosene camp stoves, but not on induction or ceramic surfaces. It’s recommended to do a test run to see how high or low the heat setting should be, as well as to adjust the baking time. For best results, always preheat.

For my first try, I preheated the stainless-steel base plate, aluminum baking mold and ventilated lid on a medium-low flame while preparing a basic cornbread recipe. After spreading the batter evenly in the ungreased silicone liner, I placed the liner in the aluminum mold, topped it with the lid and baked it for 20 minutes. The results were delicious, if I do say so myself!

The Omnia holds up to 2.1 quarts, weighs 1 pound and nests down to 10 inches wide by 5½ inches high. Available at Camping World, Walmart and Amazon, the Omnia Stove Top Oven kit (MSRP: $64, pictured above) comes with the doughnut-shaped base plate, baking mold and lid. The silicone liner ($22.99, pictured) and baking rack ($16.99) are sold separately.

The Omnia is compact, lightweight and convenient for preparing baked goods in RVs that don’t have the luxury of a traditional oven. Once you master the heating technique on the stovetop, cooking options are almost limitless, from ring-shaped breads and brownies to baked potatoes and casseroles.
