COACHMEN RV HAS INTRODUCED TWO 38-foot diesel pushers earmarked for the upper-crust gasoline-engine-chassis buyer looking to step up. The model 380MBS (pictured here) is equipped with a living-room slideout and a front entry, and has a suggested retail price of $138,290. Dash air, AM/FM stereo, and a 19-inch television and VCR are standard, while an AC generator, a bedroom television, roof air conditioners and a rearview camera are
available as options. The powertrain consists of a 275-hp Cummins ISB 5.9-liter engine with a standard exhaust brake and an Allison 3060 six-speed transmission. An optional 330-hp Caterpillar engine is also available. The chassis is a Freightliner XC model, complete with Neway air suspension and full-air drum brakes and 22.5-inch wheels. Several upscale
features highlight the Sportscoach, including cabinetry made of English walnut hardwood and a Corian galley countertop, which features a dual stainless-steel sink. The bathroom is
equipped with a private toilet compartment, a single-pedal porcelain toilet and a shower
enclosure with a glass door. The queen-size bed has an innerspring mattress with 312 coils, and the coach comes prewired for a CB radio, a rearview camera and a satellite dish.
Coachmen builds the Sportscoach using aluminum-tube framing in the walls and roof, while
the floor utilizes steel members attached to a stacked-rail chassis. Two-inch-thick
external walls are vacuum-formed with polystyrene insulation and are finished in gel-coated fiberglass. The roof is crowned laminated-rubber covering, and the front/rear caps are gel-coated fiberglass as well. The exterior width of the coach is 102 inches, the wheelbase is 228 inches. Capacities for this 38-footer include a 90-gallon fuel tank, a 68-gallon freshwater tank, a 60-gallon gray-water tank, a 65-gallon black-water tank and a 40-gallon LP-gas tank. Unloaded vehicle weight (uvw) is 22,159 pounds; the coach has a 27,410-pound gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr). A company spokesperson said that it will be adding a new 40-foot diesel pusher to the Sportscoach line later this year. Article by: Len Souza Coachmen Industries Inc., P.O.
