As most people know, lots of amenities and plenty of space to knock around in are prime
considerations when shopping for a motorhome. Although the bases have already been well
covered on both issues in its RexAir and Aerbus Class A lines, Rexhall Industries of
Lancaster, California, is enhancing living space even further with its new model 35TS
triple-slideout floorplan, which includes a first-ever EntrySlide system. The key to
Rexhall’s EntrySlide concept is incorporating a primary access door in a forward curbside
slideout. When coupled with an opposing streetside slideout, the living/dining area spans
an impressive 13-1/2 feet from wall to wall, and grants users a significant amount of
residential elbowroom. “Based on initial showings,” notes Larry Martin, Rexhall’s national
sales manager, “this plan is going to be extraordinary.” The 35TS floorplan will sleep four
to six people, depending on options, and consists of the front living/dining room, a
streetside galley midcoach and an enclosed bathroom ahead of the rear bedroom. Offering
liberal living space in the bedroom as well, a third streetside slideout houses a
side-to-side queen-size bed plus a spacious armoire. Fresh interior décors for the new
model include three fabric color combinations and a choice of lightor medium-tone oak
cabinetry. Additional highlights consist of solid-surface countertops, a choice of
freestanding or dinette eating areas and a fully equipped kitchen with an optional
12-cubic-foot refrigerator. For rest and relaxation, the superwide living/dining area is
appointed with a 25-inch television mounted in a hutch, and the choice of a sofa bed or an
L-shape sofa with Euro-style side chairs. Extended travel or camping without hookups is
well supported with this unit’s 91-gallon freshwater capacity (including hot-water tank),
wasteand gray-water tanks of 60 gallons each, and a 29-gallon LP-gas tank. A credible
driving range is likewise provided with a 75-gallon fuel tank. Rexhall’s triple-slide units
can be ordered on a Ford F-Super Duty (F-53) or Workhorse W22 gasoline-powered chassis with a 242-inch wheelbase and a coach length of 36 feet 2 inches. Adding three slideout modules on the coach is made structurally possible by the company’s strong 100-percent welded-steel frame and enabled with HWH hydraulically actuated slideout mechanisms.
Rounding out the well-crafted coach structure are gelcoat fiberglass exterior walls and a single-piece molded roof, fiberglass front and rear caps, optional dual-pane windows and a protective inner insulating barrier of polystyrene foam. For the Ford platform, the powertrain consists of a 6.8-liter Triton V-10, 310-hp engine that develops 425 lb-ft of torque and is backed by a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Workhorse rails sport a GM Vortec 8.1-liter V-8 engine that puts out 340 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. Coupled to this mill is a fivespeed Allison transmission. Both Ford and Workhorse chassis offer identical gross vehicle weight ratings of 22,000 pounds and gross combination weight ratings of 26,000 pounds.
