Quattro 40′

EACH YEAR, LUXURY MOTORHOME MANUFACTURERS TRY TO INCORPORATE MORE ROOM and more
residential-style features in their coaches. Gulf Stream Coach, of Nappanee, Indiana,
recently introduced the latest step in this vein with its four-slideout floorplan,
appropriately named Quattro. Available in the Yellowstone, Friendship, Scenic Cruiser and
Tour Master diesel-pusher models, Gulf Stream’s concept behind the Quattro was to provide
its customers with the living area of a 45-foot motorhome in a 40-foot 9-inch, single
rear-axle coach with exceptional performance. To this end, the Quattro floorplan features a
streetside slideout housing a two-place dinette and a 68-inch sofa, and a curbside galley
slideout. When both of these slideouts are deployed, the living area is a full 12 feet
wide. In response to customer requests, Gulf Stream also created a bedroom suite with dual
slideouts to dramatically increase living space. A streetside slideout accommodates the
head of the laterally located 60×74-inch bed, while a smaller slideout on the curbside
makes room for a large vanity/computer center with a 25-inch television. French doors with
day/night shades and a recliner with a pull-out ottoman conspire to make the bedroom a
separate living area, a feature Gulf Stream calls “two-zone living.” Powered by either a
standard 330-hp Caterpillar diesel or an optional 400-hp Cummins diesel engine, the Quattro
floorplan is built on Freightliner chassis, sporting a 31,000-pound gross vehicle weight
rating (gvwr). The chassis uses the company’s intricate “Cradle of Strength” construction
method, featuring an “integrated network of steel trusses to the chassis rail.” Gulf Stream
maintains this method offers the customer reduced flex and vibration, a quieter ride and
less wear and tear on the chassis and components. The Quattro floorplan is available with
walnut, oak or white laminate cabinets (depending on which model is selected). Corian
countertops are used in the U-shape galley area, which also features a three-burner cooktop
and a convection microwave oven. The Quattro comes with such features as a 25-inch
television in the living area, Flexsteel furniture and a washer/dryer. Popular options
include a 7.5-kW diesel AC generator, Quadra Level jacks, a Norcold four-door refrigerator
and a 10-disc CD changer. Other features include Alcoa forged aluminum wheels and a full
painted exterior. The Quattro holds up to 150 gallons of diesel fuel, plus 100 gallons of
fresh water, 75 gallons each of gray and black water, 35 gallons of LP-gas and 10 gallons
of hot water. Pricing varies, depending on the model and options selected. Article by:
