Q & A: Saving at the Pump

Originally Published in MotorHome Magazine

Q. With the high price of fuel, what are some things I can do to save at
the pump?

 A. Here are some simple things to do:

  • Slow down. Reducing speed from 65 to 55 mph can typically save up to 10
    percent.
  • Don’t buy a higher octane gasoline than your engine needs. Read the owner’s manual
    for recommended grade.
  • Don’t carry unnecessary weight, such as full water tanks, when staying at
    campgrounds with hookups.
  • Consider leaving the dinghy vehicle at home and taking bicycles for local
    trips.
