Q & A: Re-refined Oil

Originally Published in MotorHome Magazine

Q. A repair shop I go to has a sign posted that says they use re-refined
oil. Is it safe to use reprocessed oil in a motorhome engine?

A.
Re-refined oil, if it is produced properly, can be used safely. While we are in favor of
recycling whenever it is practical, it’s also important to protect your engine. Make sure
that the re-refined oil meets SAE and API specifications and requirements for your engine,
which should be listed in the owner’s manual. Re-refined oil must be declared on the
package or container. Safety-Kleen and Evergreen Oil are among the re-refiners.
