Q. Are aftermarket oil additives recommended?
A. Most
major engine manufacturers and oil formulators do not approve of aftermarket lubricant
products because of concerns over potential damage from harmful additives, and there are
simply too many on the market to evaluate. There have been several companies (including
automakers and major oil companies) that have marketed lubricant additives, which claim to
provide increased lubrication protection. Due to this contradictory situation, consumers
must decide for themselves or take the advice of their trusted mechanics or suppliers. In
most cases, the additives are not necessary
