Anyone with an interest in the history of aviation and historic and modern aircraft should take a road trip to the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona. The museum covers 80 acres and houses more than 300 aircraft from the world’s smallest biplane to some of the largest piston and jet engine aircraft in the world. Visitors can walk around aircraft in the four hangars in addition to those on display outdoors (see photos). There are tram tours around the facility as well as docent-led walks through the hangars, plus a huge free parking lot that can accommodate the largest RVs.
The Pima Air and Space Museum is one of the largest museums of this type in the world. Many of the aircraft and artifacts have been donated or are on loan to the museum, some for restoration and many of viewing by the public. In addition to the tram and docent let tours at the museum, there is also a one-hour bus tour to the adjacent Davis-Monthan Air Force Base to visit the 309th Aircraft Maintenance and Regeneration Group. There is a grill for lunch serving hamburgers, salads, pizza sandwiches and an assortment of drinks as well as a gift shop with aviation related products, clothing, and models plus a huge free parking lot that will accommodate the largest motorhomes. There are seven Good Sam Parks nearby. The Museum is located at 6000 E. Valencia, (Exit 267) off I-10 in Tucson.
