Passing Vehicles Generate Electricity

Originally Published in MotorHome Magazine

Students at Toronto’s Centennial College have a plan to harness the wind
produced by high-speed traffic passing by on Route 401, which is
Canada’s busiest highway, to produce electricity.

The Canadian government has given the students permission to
install three instruments to record wind speeds and force adjacent to
the 16-lane highway. Later, the data will be evaluated to decide if
there’s sufficient wind from passing traffic to drive a turbine. If all
goes well, the students might have a wind turbine set up along the
highway within a year.
