Ontario Relaxes RV Licensing Rules

TORONTO – It will soon be easier to take it on the road as Ontario is loosening licensing rules for recreational vehicles, according to a report by the Toronto Sun.

Starting July 1, it will no longer be necessary to have a Class A commercial vehicle license to tow a RV, Transportation Minister Kathleen Wynne said.

“They’ve been able to drive a motorhomes with a Class G regular license but in order to drive a motorhome with a trailer of the same size, you had to have a Class A license,” she said. “That was about $200 more in licensing fees.”

The change brings Ontario into line with most other provinces and U.S. states, where regular diving licenses are all that is required.

“There were people going to the States to buy these vehicles, rather than buying them up here because of this rule,” Wynne said. “It’s good for the RV industry here and it’s good for people who what to go on holidays.”

The ruling affects vehicles between 4,600 kilos and 11,000 kilos.
