The National Park Service has announced the delivery of a new fleet of
18 Gillig shuttle buses to Yosemite National Park. This is the first
fleet of hybrid buses to operate in a U.S. National Park, and they are
powered by General Motors advanced hybrid technology. GM hybrid-equipped
buses are also operating in 22 cities across the country. The buses
will shuttle visitors in Yosemite Valley and in Mariposa Grove of the
Sequoias.
GM’s advanced hybrid propulsion system for buses offers greater
fuel economy and dramatically lower emissions over conventional
diesels. As more are built, there is speculation the price may come down
to make the system practical for private motorhomes.
