NHTSA Proposes Rating Changes

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced proposed changes to its vehicle-safety rating program. These changes would make it more difficult for manufacturers to win a five-star rating.

NHTSA said the changes are need because 87 percent of cars today get a five-star rating, so it doesn’t allow the differentiation between models.

In addition, NHTSA may add a grading system that would rate crash-avoidance systems such as stability controls, side-collision warning systems and lane-departure sensors.
