NHTSA Probes Jeep Grand Cherokee

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) has raised the level of its investigation into 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee hood latches. At least 19 people have reported that the hood has popped open while driving.

NHTSA launched a preliminary investigation last May into 1996-98 models of the Grand Cherokee, but found that most claims are for the 1997 model.

NHTSA engineers will now begin examining the parts of the hood latch to determine what the problem is.
