DaimlerChrysler officials have introduced the world’s first synthetic diesel fuel. It is said to be made entirely of organic products and its carbon-dioxide emissions are claimed to not harm the environment.
A spokesman said the fuel, which is made from wood residue and called Biotrol, is the cleanest and most environmentally friendly diesel fuel ever. Tests are being conducted to determine if standard diesel engines will require any adjustments.
Biotrol can be added to diesel fuel with no adverse affects, except that carbon-dioxide emissions are lowered; the reduction depends on the mixture ratio.
If made today, Biotrol would cost two to three times as much as conventional diesel fuel, but DaimlerChrysler says the cost will drop as use increases.
