Monaco RV LLC and Navistar International Corp. brought RV dealers
and the industry press together this week (July 28 and 29) for the first
Monaco Dealer Congress since the Coburg, Ore., RV manufacturer was
purchased last year by the nation’s largest truck maker.

With the senior managements of both companies in attendance
Thursday at Navistar’s massive Melrose Park, Ill., Engine Plant, the
two firms dramatically unveiled the first motorhome developed in a
collaborative effort between the two — the 32- and -35-foot 2011 Monaco
Vesta Class A.

The Vesta, which will also be marketed under the Holiday
Rambler Trip nameplate, brings together Monaco’s motorized RV legacy and
Navistar’s leading edge truck industry technology. The result is a
sleek front-engine coach with a low center of gravity, air bag
suspension and a tapered rear section.

The Vesta/Trip will be built on a proprietary Monaco Roadmaster
chassis with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,000 pounds and
equipped with a 260-hp MaxxForce 7 diesel engine that, according to
Monaco, should get 15-18 mpg. A single-slide 32-footer, which will be
built at Monaco’s Oregon facilities and is due out this fall, will
retail for $195,000 to $200,000 with interiors featuring Ultraleather
furniture and Corian countertops.

“It’s just the beginning of what you’re going to see between
our two companies,” said Mike Snell, senior vice president of sales and
product development for Monaco, calling it “the most aerodynamic,
ergonomic, fuel efficient coach ever produced.”
