One of the more popular state park campgrounds at Levi Jackson State
Park in London, Kentucky, will receive some improvements this winter.
Six pull-through sites for recreational vehicles and campers will have
new water, electric and sewer hookups added. These sites also will have
paved drives, concrete parking pads and gravel living areas.
Another 25 back-in campsites will be renovated with new water
and electric hookups and new living areas. Twenty-one of these sites
will have sewer connections. Ten other sites will receive new electrical
power pedestals as part of the renovation.
A new regulation-size volleyball court, basketball court, and
shelter by Bathhouse 1 also will be constructed. A new multipurpose
trail for walking and biking will be opening soon.
Levi Jackson has a total of 146 campsites. The park includes
utility hookups, a grocery store, a dump station, and three central
service buildings containing an activities room, showers, rest rooms and
laundry facilities.
Levi Jackson will close for the season on November 18 and is
scheduled to re-open in mid-March 2008, with sites in the front section
of the campground being available. The improvements are scheduled for
completion before Memorial Day. The dump station will not be available
until construction is complete.
Besides the campground, visitors to Levi Jackson can also see
the Mountain Life Museum, which features seven actual pioneer buildings
or replicas. Guests also can visit McHargue’s Mill, a working
reproduction mill that has the largest display of millstones in the
country. The museum and mill are closed during the winter months.
