The Wildlife Loop Scenic Byway, located within Custer State Park, stretches for 18 miles and has something to offer every traveler. Nestled among South Dakota’s famous Badlands, the drive guarantees gorgeous views of prairies and mountain foothills. Named accordingly, this byway also gives travelers plenty of exciting photo ops filled with bison, bighorn sheep, elk, coyotes, prairie dogs and burros. The Wildlife Loop Scenic Byway also offers beautiful views any time of the day. A little fact: the world’s largest publicly owned bison herd lives at Custer State Park. The park also offers 13 campgrounds, including a horse camp and French Creek Natural Area, for a more primitive camping experience.
