Find Your Adventure: Pack It In

One of the great things about our “Find Your Adventure” series saluting the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service is the chances it’s given us to get out and explore places like southern Utah’s Capitol Reef National Park.

We’ve also had an opportunity to try out some new outdoor gear that we think will add to your experience as you visit our national parks this summer. Case in point: the Mountainsmith Tour lumbar pack, which features a spacious main compartment for stashing everything from a sandwich to binoculars. There’s also a padded waist belt with a cell phone-size pocket, elastic bungees for securing a jacket and two water bottle pockets.

NalgeneSiloWe filled those side pockets with Nalgene’s Silo. These tall 48-ounce bottles take up the same space as the company’s familiar 32-ounce versions, but allow you to pack significantly more water – a total of three-quarters of a gallon, to be precise – a feature that’s no small advantage when hiking in the hot, dry climes of a southern Utah summer.
