Find Your Adventure: Keepin’ Your Cool

Traveling across the country to write the monthly feature stories for our yearlong Find Your Adventure series has resulted in more car picnics than we care to count.

Which has left us staring down an inescapable fact of outdoor life – sooner or later you’re going to need to pack up a cooler with anything from today’s picnic lunch to the fixin’s for tomorrow’s barbecue supper. And here’s the one thing we can guarantee you – if you’re out for more than a few hours you’ll end up stopping somewhere along the way and shelling out for more ice to replace what’s melted.

You can stop laying out so much of your hard-earned cash for frozen water with the help of an ice chest from Orion Coolers. In our tests, the company’s tough Orion 25 model – which features two-plus inches of insulation – kept most of a 12-pound bag of ice frozen for more than a week, even in direct sunlight and ambient temperatures above 80 degrees.

While Orion Coolers are not cheap, their rugged roto-molded construction and heavy-duty hardware should stand up to a lifetime of hard use while sparing you the annoyance of having to buy a fresh bag of ice every single day. And that’s what we call cool.
