Documentarian Ken Burns is partnering with Connecticut-based Tauck Tours to create two park-themed, RV-based tours. The first, a 10-day trip called “Spirit of the Desert,” will be offered May 15, 2011, through October 15 and include stops at such Utah parks as Bryce Canyon, Zion and Capitol Reef plus the north rim of the Grand Canyon.
Another 10-day tour will concentrate on Civil War sites in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Best known for exploring American culture and history in highly regarded films including “The Civil War,” “Baseball,” “Jazz” and more recently “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea,” Burns and his collaborator Dayton Duncan will work with Tauck on several projects including developing new journeys and creating special events that feature appearances by the filmmakers. (Trailer Life’s article, “America’s Best Idea,” details an intimate interview with Burns about his six-part series on the history of the national parks, which made its way to PBS last fall.) As next year marks the 150th anniversary of the start of the war, Burns’ 1990 series “The Civil War” is slated to re-air in 2011.
Prices and specific tour dates will be listed on www.tauck.com starting in early to mid-November.
