EPA, Ford Cooperate on Diesel Program

Originally Published in MotorHome Magazine

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Ford Motor Company
are beginning Phase 2 of their joint Clean Diesel Combustion (CDC)
program. The CDC program is working on diesel technology that can meet
the EPA’s Tier 2-bin 5 emission standards for nitrogen oxides and
particulates. The development team reports it successfully improved a
van’s fuel mileage by 30-40 percent over gasoline, while still meeting
the Tier 2-bin 5 emission standard.

Next, Ford and the EPA will work on refining the design and
making it more commercial viable. This may result in cleaner-running
future diesels.
