The barrier islands of Georgia’s coast include pristine nature preserves and historic sites from the colonial and antebellum periods.

Explore the town of Brunswick, named for King George III’s ancestral homeland. The oak-lined streets in the historic district are bordered by charming shops and galleries. Hop on a boat at the waterfront for fishing, sightseeing and dolphin tours of St. Simons Sound. Newcastle Street boasts a range of cafés and restaurants serving regional cuisine, including the “original” Brunswick stew.
Stay at the Coastal Georgia RV Park in Brunswick for full hookups and spacious pull-through sites. This Good Sam Park has a boat dock on Lake Earl for fishing and paddle boating.
Take a day trip south to Cumberland Island National Seashore, home to many endangered species like gopher tortoises and manatees. 50 miles of hiking trails wind through maritime forests, marshes, wetlands and beaches. The island also offers opportunities for swimming, beachcombing, biking, wildlife watching and fishing.
For a more refined experience, visit Jekyll Island, the former private vacation spot for the Rockefeller, Morgan, Gould and Pulitizer families. Book a tee-time at one of the four Jekyll Island golf courses and enjoy fairways along the island’s lakes and beaches. Mini golf, tennis and horseback riding round out the available outdoor activities.
With great winter weather and so much to see and do, you may find that coastal Georgia becomes your favorite snowbird destination for years to come.
