Central Maryland – Visit Baltimore and Annapolis

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

Enjoy the warm sunshine in central Maryland this summer by walking along the waterfront or taking in a baseball game. Feeling more sophisticated? Baltimore and Annapolis boast a variety of arts and cultural diversions as well.

Baseball fans will delight in the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum in Baltimore. After browsing the sports memorabilia, head over to Camden Yards to grab a hot dog and watch the Baltimore Orioles battle the Cincinnati Reds June 24-26 or the St. Louis Cardinals June 28-30.

Cruise the Chesapeake Bay past Annapolis and the U.S. Naval Academy in a wooden schooner, Woodwind. Two-hour public cruises set sail several times daily. One complimentary soft drink and snack are included in the ticket price.

American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore shares an eye-catching collection created by self-taught artists. The current feature exhibition, “What Makes Us Smile?” is described by the museum as “a playful celebration of human joy.” If you find yourself inspired after viewing the eclectic mix of art, go to the third floor photo booth to show us what makes you smile.

Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine is an important piece of national history. Francis Scott Key wrote our national anthem after the fort’s successful defense against the British during the War of 1812. The summer months offer daily ranger talks, weekend living history, and military demonstrations by the Fort McHenry Guard.

Set up camp at Morris Meadows Recreation Farm (GSC park) in Freeland, Md., less than 40 miles north of Baltimore. This will be convenient as a home base for your rig since many urban attractions offer metered street parking best navigated by a dinghy or tow vehicle.

Visit the Maryland Office of Tourism website for trip planning details.
