A Canadian development group is scouting locations along the west coast from British Columbia to California for its planned RV Strata Apartments. According to President and Founder Alan K. Palmer, the concept is to place RVs into private cubicles as full-time living accommodations.
“The RV isn’t driven into the apartment unit, it is pulled into the
garage area, cleaned up and tanks removed and pulled onto a vertical
incline lift ramp,” Palmer noted in a release. “It is then taken to the
owner’s suite for connection to the required facilities.”
“Land cost presents a significant savings,” he added. “Using
hillside locations – which are generally very expensive to service for
regular housing – has led us to some very beautiful and ‘near town’
locations.”
According to Palmer, benefits of the program include:
- Low initial cost.
- Your trailer is your accommodations – bedroom, kitchen,
etc.; you pay only for the basic shell infrastructure, taxes and strata
fees. - You are only heating and cooling a small area within a protective shell.
- Reduction in owner/vehicle environmental “footprint.” Most
recreational vehicles are stored somewhere, while owners live in
separate homes. - Placed vehicles are rentable.
- Affords a high degree of privacy security.
- Reduces the degrading effects of the sun’s ultraviolet light on vehicle exteriors.
The units also include extra storage and living area and the sites
allow parking for cars, trucks, etc., and other recreational facilities
such as swimming pools may be included, depending on demand.
“Modern trailers and motorhomes have beautiful interiors, are very
roomy due to expandable slide-outs and are often more attractive than
many regular apartments,” Palmer said. “Depending on the area, the units
should prove to be very affordable, environmentally sensitive and
create a fun new way of ‘living the full-time lifestyle.'”
