California – the nation’s leading market for RVs and camping – is investing in new campsites, cabins and other upgrades at its private campgrounds, just in time for the summer camping season.
“Campground and RV park operators know that the recession is
temporary, and that it behooves them to continue making improvements to
their parks so that they can compete with other travel and tourism
options,” said Debbie Sipe, executive director of the California
Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (CalARVC)).
As a result, many private park operators are investing in new
facilities and amenities at existing parks and campgrounds. Parks
included in the list are spread across the entire state. For example:
- Auburn Gold Country RV Park, Auburn. This 66-RV site property is
getting a $300,000 facelift that includes upgrades to 50-amp electrical and Wi-Fi. - Bakersfield Palms RV Park, Bakersfield. This park recently
completed a $1 million expansion, including a new overnight traveler section with 20
premium, 25-foot wide/70-foot long, 50-amp electrical sites. Telephone, cable and Wi-Fi
have also been upgraded. - Campland on the Bay, San Diego. This park is adding a $50,000
skate park, scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend, as well as spending $100,000 on
infrastructure improvements, including a leash-free dog park. - Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort, Plymouth. This park is
already large with 329 sites and 13 park model rentals. $200,000 will be spent this
year to improve it further, particularly to the park’s pool complex. - Flying Flags RV Resort, Buellton. Located just outside of
Dutch-themed Solvang – in the heart of the Santa Ynez wine country valley – $500,000 in
improvements are planned for this year. These include three recreational-park trailer
cabin rental units, a fitness center, electrical and sewer upgrades, cable tv system
upgrades, new landscaping and more. - Frandy Park Campground, Kernville. Improvements to the landscaping
and paving at this riverfront park are expected to run about $70,000 and include a new
dump tank installation. - Kamp Klamath RV Park and Campground, Klamath. $30,000 in
improvements to this 33-acre park include the addition of 26 new tent sites and three
more RV sites. The park is situated in Big Foot country with a quarter mile of frontage
along the Klamath River. - Pismo Coast Village RV Resort, Pismo Beach. $700,000 in
improvements include renovations of 51 campsites with upgrades to 50-amp electrical
service, renovating the swimming pools, road paving and more. Next year the park plans
to develop a 20-acre site for RV storage. - Premier RV Resorts, Redding. This park, which has 84 RV sites, 12
tent sites and two yurts, plans to do a 21-site expansion this year. Other improvements
include a new hot tub and a fenced dog run. - Rancho Los Coches RV Park, Lakeside. Investing more than $30,000
this year in renovations, including improvements to the swimming pool, its patio and
hot tub, the park has also added a fitness center and made landscaping
improvements. - San Francisco North/Petaluma KOA. The park is investing $200,000
this year to finish its dog park and remodel the camp store. It also added six
park-model cabins. - Sunland RV Resorts. This La Jolla-based chain has six parks in
Riverside and Diego counties, and upgraded its Wi-Fi system this year.
