If you plan to travel to Germany this year, you can be one of the million or so people visiting the Oktoberfest in Munich from September 17 through October 3, enjoying your share of the 10 million pints of beer, 750,000 spit-roasted chickens and more than 800,000 wursts and sausages.
Not surprisingly, German immigrants continued to celebrate the festival in the New World. Of course, most Oktoberfest then and now share a number of similarities – lots of German music, polka dancing, copious quantities of hearty food and beer by the barrel.
