Some fifth-wheel trailers are large and residential, intended for people who tend to stay put for extended periods, while others are more compact and roadworthy — designed for owners who prefer to be on the move more regularly. And then there is the Alumascape 32SKT, which seems to fit into both camps.
Built by Holiday Rambler Corporation (HRC), this trailer is attractive as well as classy inside and out, and has enough maneuverability to be used realistically as a travel vehicle rather than mostly as semi-fixed accommodations.
The interior presents a good first impression of luxury and sophistication, created by the nicely crafted raised-panel cabinetry, decorative cabinet door inserts and the warm ambience of the wood.
The standard dining furniture offered is a dinette, but our test unit was outfitted with a beautiful cherry-wood table and matching chairs. The seating arrangement provides good TV viewing from the recliners.
A shelf can be pulled out from below the TV to create a temporary desk using a dining chair, or the dining table can be put to that service. An optional fireplace can be installed in place of a cabinet in this storage/entertainment center console.
The kitchen is serviceable and convenient, with sinks, storage, microwave and conventional oven, 8-cubic-foot refrigerator and large pantry practically within arm’s reach, and with a reasonable amount of counter space.
Angling forward and up three steps to the bedroom are a couple more indicators of residential comfort: a king-size bed, and a closet plumbed for a washer/dryer. Also occupying the upper level of this trailer is a very convenient bathroom arrangement, with a lavatory next to a rounded shower and with toilet room separate, across the aisle.
The 32SKT combines beautiful cabinetry with high levels of comfort and convenience in a trailer that has good residential qualities despite its relatively maneuverable overall length. Construction is solid, and this fifth-wheel is within the towing capability of production-line, one-ton-rated pickups, and is a good choice for the prospective buyer who likes to hit the road — with all the comforts of home.
