SkyDeck Industries and Airstream, a division of Thor Industries Inc., are introducing a
unique Class A diesel-pusher motorhome with a rooftop patio. The 39-foot Airstream SkyDeck
is built on a Freightliner chassis powered by a 320-hp Caterpillar engine. The deck, which
is accessible via inside stairs, is said to add less than 3 inches to the coach’s height.
“We feel the SkyDeck will address … consumer demands by dramatically expanding
entertainment options while offering RVers and their guests a unique ‘view from the top,'”
said Larry Huttle, Airstream president. The rooftop deck features cushioned seating, safety
rails, a king-size sun lounger, a built-in propane barbecue and wet bar, and yacht
umbrellas. In addition to the deck, the Airstream SkyDeck features two slideouts and a
fireplace. Options include a HiLo Stow dining-coffee table, outdoor speakers and outdoor
lighting. The coach will be available in several floorplans for the 2003 model year.
