Designed for folks who want the utility of a pickup truck, but not the large size, the 2015 Chevy Colorado is a mid-sized model with enough muscle for towing. The optional 3.6-liter V-6 is rated 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive is available. The six-speed auto offers good flexibility, with strong pulling power and relaxed highway cruising, when called for. A $250 Trailering Package brings maximum towing capacity to 7,000 pounds, with the V-6.
Extended or crew cabs, five- and six-foot beds are available, as is a six-speed manual for base models; LT and Z71 models get a six-speed automatic. Tow-haul mode is included with the automatic transmission, which makes towing more pleasant. The base engine is a 2.5-liter inline-four with 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque.
Options include OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot functionality, an 8-inch touchscreen (LT and Z71), and a $395 Safety Package with Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning (optional on LT). Base prices vary from $20,995 to $35,290 depending on option packages.
