For 2014 Cadillac’s Escalade is offered in two different body styles, with one engine. The extra-length ESV model is 21-inches longer, with seating capacity for up to eight adults.
The standard 6.2-liter V-8 is rated at 403 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque, and can whisk the big vehicle to 60 mph in about 6.5 seconds. All that torque plus a heavy-duty 6L80E six-speed automatic transmission, electronically controlled with overdrive and tow/haul mode, makes for great towing performance. Maximum factory tow rating with a weight-distributing hitch is 8,300 pounds.
A roomy interior makes long trips more pleasant, and optional Magnetic Ride Control provides good handling with comfort. Interior features of note include a Bose 5.1 Digital Surround Sound system, an eight-inch touch-screen navigation system with real-time traffic information, heated and cooled front seats, and power-actuated running boards.
The optional Platinum package adds chrome 22-inch wheels, Tehama anilene leather, heated and cooled cupholders (really!), LED headlamps, leather-trimmed dash, and other and trim upgrades. Base MSRP starts at $63,745.
