The 6½-foot bed on my shortbed truck holds a generator and a rolled- up cover. It’s difficult to hook up the truck to my fifth-wheel since I can’t see around the generator and bed cover. I made a block of wood about 3 inches long by 1½ inches high and 2 inches wide. I then put a magnet on the bottom to hold it on the fifth-wheel plate, and fitted it with a ½-inch dowel about 12 inches long on the top to guide me to the fifth-wheel. I also put another dowel on the side so I can reach in the bed and place the guide on the hitch saddle. I use a hook and cord to hang it in the corner of the truck’s bed, making it easy to reach when I get ready to hook up.
