Back in January, Airstream took the wraps off an all-new towable dubbed the World Traveler. At the time, the initial lineup for the new nameplate consisted of a single floor plan—the 22RB. That model measures 22′ end-to-end, comfortably sleeps four, and comes with a surprising number of features at an affordable price point. Fast forward to today, and the iconic RV maker has announced plans to expand that lineup further with the addition of an even smaller, lighter, and more approachable Airstream World Traveler. The 17RB travel trailer is even more approachable than its sibling, with its compact size allowing it to be towed by a wider range of vehicles without compromising comfort.

As its name implies, the World Traveler 17RB is 17′ in length, making it smaller and cozier than the 22RB. Whereas that model is designed for small families and couples who occasionally bring guests, this version is made for solo campers and couples only. Despite its size, the rig isn’t short on features; however, it includes a spacious rear dinette in the front and a 53″ bed with room for two located in the rear. It also embraces a flexible design, most notably in the kitchen where a fold-out countertop extension and a removable/storable countertop extension add additional space as needed. Even the onboard 12V mini-fridge gets in on the flexible space action with an optional refrigerator door that slots in below the dinette as an available add-on.

Other standard features include a two-burner LP cooktop, a 24″ smart TV, and both ducted air conditioning and heating. The A/C unit and Truma Combi Eco Plus—which provides hot air and water—are both located beneath the dinette bench, giving the travel trailer a more aerodynamic, streamlined profile. It also helps distribute cool and warm air more efficiently, keeping the interior comfortable in a wide variety of conditions. Optional upgrades include a 200W solar panel system, a 2.5kWh lithium house battery, an integrated backup camera, a microwave, and a bedding kit.

“World Traveler 17RB offers a more compact design that’s ready for travel from day one, expanding the approachable entry points into the Airstream lifestyle,”  Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler says in a press release announcing the new model. “We’re giving customers across the globe another option to support flexible travel without sacrificing the comfort, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design that define the Airstream brand.”

To that end, the 17RB has a GVWR of just 3,500 lbs, allowing it to be towed behind lightweight pickup trucks, midsize SUVs, or even some crossover vehicles. This helps it achieve Airstream’s goal of making the World Traveler line more approachable and affordable to a wider range of buyers, which is further enhanced by its $64,400 starting price point.
